Driver to compete abroad for first time
The three-day international rally will be the first time the 22-year old driver has competed outside of the UK. Elfyn, who last competed at the Jim Clark rally, comments: “I’ve not competed for the last few months, but as part of Team UK, during that time I’ve been lucky enough to get some driving experience in at Goodwood.”
“The rally at Finland will be a real learning experience. The route is very specialist. As it’s on public gravel roads, there are quite a few crests, jumps and corners, meaning it’s even more important to get the line 100% accurate. If I don’t, I’ll be off the road.”
Elfyn and co-driver Andrew Edwards are currently in second position of the British Rally Championship. The Pirelli Star Driver, who drives a TEG Sport Subaru Impreza, continues: “This is a chance to develop both my and Andrew’s skills. We hope to learn as much as we can over the first few days and make the most of the opportunity. Without the support of others, none of this would be possible. I’m hoping to progress to competing outside of the UK next year, but am actively seeking new sponsorship to allow that to happen.”
After Finland, Elfyn Evans will compete in the International Rally in Ireland in August.
