Elfyn Evans to contest Rallye du Condroz with new co-driver

Subject to official FIA confirmation, Elfyn secured the WRC Academy title on the recent Rallye de France Alsace, but is targeting his fifth successive Academy rally victory on the final round of the season, the mixed-surface Rally de Espana which takes place less than a week after the Condroz Rally.

Elfyn will be accompanied by a new co-driver for both events. Phil Pugh, who guided Elfyn to the Academy title, has decided to step down from the co-driver’s seat for 2013 and so, rather than start the new season with a brand new co-driver, Elfyn has elected to compete with Seb Marshall on both the Condroz and Spanish rallies.

24-year old Seb, based in Skipton, has already made a name for himself co-driving for Harry Hunt and Molly Taylor, winning the 2010 IRC 2WD trophy alongside Hunt. Like Elfyn, Seb is a member of MSA Team UK.

Elfyn said:

I’m really looking forward to competing on the Rallye du Condroz. I was delighted to be invited to do the event and it’ll be the first time I’ve driven an R1 Fiesta in anger. Phil has been a huge help to me this year and I’ll be sorry he won’t be with me on these two events, but I completely understand and respect his decision. I’ve known Seb for a while and so it was an easy decision to ask him to join me.

Phil Pugh said:

This year has been fantastic but, looking ahead to 2013, I couldn’t give Elfyn the kind of commitment he was looking for. I’m really busy with work and having a young family means I really need to be giving more time to them. I think Seb will be a great replacement and I’ve already told both of them that I’m keen to support Elfyn in any way I can and so I’m at the end of the phone if either of them needs me.

Seb Marshall said:

Phil will, of course, be a tough act to follow but this is a hugely important opportunity for me and I’m really grateful to Elfyn for giving me this chance. I have several friends who compete in Belgium and so I’ve heard a lot about the Rallye du Condroz; I’ve also competed in Spain and done the recce twice, so I hope I can offer Elfyn some experience of the event.
