Local rally driver selected for elite national team
Announced at today’s (13th Jan) Autosport International show in Birmingham’s NEC, the 22 year old will now benefit from the expertise of two motorsport legends; 2009 Le Mans champion and Team UK’s National Race Coach, David Brabham, and three-time British Rally Champion and Team UK’s National Rally Coach, Mark Higgins.
As well as receiving this guidance, Elfyn and the nine other drivers will be taken through a programme that includes track skills, driving coaching, physical and psychological training and, to improve their technical knowledge, the Team UK drivers will have the chance to work with engineers and market leaders in areas such as brake technology, tyres and vehicle dynamics.
Rally driver, Elfyn Evans, comments:
“Being selected for Team UK is a major opportunity in my career, which will open so many new doors for me. The specialist programme will provide knowledge that I would never have dreamed of having at this stage and to have the chance to work with engineers and industry experts so early in my career is incredibly beneficial.”
Mark Higgins, Team UK’s National Rally Coach, adds:
“I am really looking forward to working with Elfyn, the current Pirelli Star Driver, and especially to seeing him fighting for the British title this year.”
This selection follows many other successes for Elfyn, one of which is being named UK Pirelli Star Driver 2010 at the end of last year.
Elfyn has a calendar of events lined up for this year, with the first being Bournemouth’s Rallye Sunseeker International in February.
