Elfyn retires from Wales Rally GB
18 November 2011
Despite best efforts from Elfyn Evans and co-driver Andrew Edwards, the young rally duo was forced to retire at SS16 from the British round of the World Rally Championship.
After holding an impressive first in class and coming 20th overall, the pair experienced unavoidable damage to the car on Saturday.
Evans and Edwards rejoined the competition on Sunday under super rally rules, but unfortunately, the Ford Fiesta R2 was noticeably overheating on the first stage, calling it a day for the Welsh drivers.
Elfyn comments: “Having to retire was extremely frustrating. Our team worked tirelessly on the Saturday night to fix up the car. Even with a penalty against us under super rally rules, we still stood a pretty good chance of success. On another good note, we were beating the WRC Academy drivers by over a minute, which we are both really proud of.”
“We’re busy looking to 2012, so will be putting some plans together soon. ”
Elfyn Evans is set to attend the British Rally Championship awards dinner this weekend, where he will collect his award for coming second in this year’s championship.
