Elfyn Evans and his co-driver Daniel Barritt made a strong start to this year’s Rally Mexico – sitting in a podium position just 15 seconds adrift of the lead after the third speed test – but the rally ended in dramatic fashion for the pair.
As the crews made their way to the first pass of Ortega (SS4), the luckless Brits were caught out by a series of compressions while in sixth gear. Thrown sideways, they lost the rear end of the car and rolled the M-Sport Fiesta.
The pairing checked in with the medical team on their return to service where Dan was advised not to continue. Both driver and co-driver were okay, but safety remains paramount and the decision was taken to withdraw the car to ensure the pair get the necessary rest before the next WRC round in Corsica.
