Success at Rallye De France for Elfyn Evans
Elfyn took victory in Class 6, winning by 7 minutes 42 seconds, and finished 16th overall in France, beating the entire field of talented drivers from the WRC Academy. This was the best-ever finishing position for the Ford Fiesta R2 in the FIA World Rally Championship. It was Elfyn’s third-ever WRC event, and his first experience of WRC Tarmac.
Elfyn comments on his experience: “Competing abroad is vital experience for me. The terrain is different with wider, smoother roads than in the UK. The big cuts on the corners means it’s often hard to keep control and makes a massive difference to the driving experience. Keeping that smooth line is essential.”
Elfyn Evans, and his co-driver Andrew Edwards, spent three days competing in the driver’s own Pirelli-backed Fiesta R2 in Strasbourg, France, supported by Gwyndaf Evans Motorsport and RPJ Consulting.
He continues: “I am delighted with this result. To come 16th against some top quality drivers is an excellent outcome so early on outside my normal BRC experience. Once we arrive home, we will continue training, with our sights on the Wales Rally GB.”
The Wales Rally GB is a British round of the World Rally Championship and is spread across the country from Llandudno to Cardiff over three days.
