Elfyn Holds Firm As Conditions Get Hot & Rough In Greece

Elfyn delivered another strong result on a demanding Acropolis Rally of Greece to secure another solid points haul and maintain is FIA World Rally Championship lead after three loose gravel events.

Running first on the road on the opening day was always going to be a tough prospect in Greece, with a huge amount of loose gravel to be swept away on the roads and only one second pass stage.

Add in some extreme temperatures and the first day without a main service, and it was a case of holding station, avoiding problems and focusing on securing an improved road position for Saturday.

After six gruelling stages on Friday, Elfyn had steered clear of any major issues to hold fourth place. He continue to deliver a strong performance during Saturday, while also being sympathetic with the GR Yaris through some of the worst parts of the stages.

With the cars taking a battering, every service was a welcome opportunity to repair, reset and refuel. But Elfyn held strong and ended Saturday still in fourth.

The final four stages on Sunday still offered 100km of action so it wasn’t the usual sprint to the finish and additional Super Sunday points were on offer. Elfyn continued his strategy of aiming for a clean finish and rounded the event in fourth place, securing additional points for Super Sunday and the Power Stage.

His championship lead has been reduced to nine points ahead of the next two fast gravel events in Estonia and Finland.
