Elfyn Evans returned to the top of the World Rally Championship after powering to second place in the Central European Rally.

He takes a 13-point lead into the final two rounds of the championship after he moved steadily through the field to pip Ott Tanak to second place on the final stage in Central Europe.

With stages across Austria, Germany and Czechia, the rally provided a string of different challenges and a steady start for Elfyn on the Friday was boosted by his speed on drier, cleaner stages.

Some adjustments overnight saw him progress on the Saturday and on Sunday's clean, dry stages he found real speed to overhaul Tanak. Finishing second both in the Sunday standings and on the Power Stage provided a real boost to his championship hopes. And with Sebastien Ogier crashing out on Saturday, it saw Elfyn moving ahead of him in the title fight.

With Toyota teammate Kalle Rovanpera winning the event, the top two was enough for the Japan company to claim the manufacturers' title ahead of their home race next month.
